Long Distance DVI

Kramer Introduces Optical DVI Cables to Send DVI Signals up to 164 Feet

08 February 2006

Jerusalem, Israel – February 2, 2006 – Celebrating their 25th Anniversary in 2006, Kramer Electronics, Ltd., an ISO 9001 : 2000 certified company, and a worldwide supplier of audio, video and computer graphics signal distribution, switching and processing equipment, is pleased to announce the introduction of four optical DVI cables, models 6010, 6020, 6030 and 6050, capable of sending DVI signals from 33 feet up to 164 feet without the need for repeaters.

XGA resolution DVI signals typically can travel about 25 to 30 feet over copper based cables before the signal is lost. Kramer’s new fiber-optic cables have converters built in each DVI-D connector on both ends of the cable. These converters turn the signals into fiber-optic light pulses so that the signals can travel much greater distances. Kramer’s new fiber-optic DVI-D cables come in four pre-cut lengths. The 6010 is 10 meters (32.8 feet), the 6020 is 20 meters (65.6 feet), the 6030 is 30 meters (98.4 feet) and the 6050 is 50 meters (164 feet).

Kramer’s new fiber-optic DVI-D cables comply with the DVI standard and support the DDC2B mode. They are very flexible and do not require external power, making them very “installer friendly.” They draw their +5V power on pin 14 from most source devices (some DVI source devices may not supply power on pin 14 and will require an external power adapter). These cables support computer graphics video signals with resolutions of up to 1920x1200 at 60Hz and HDTV signals up to 1080p, and can be used with any DVI compatible display. All the cables comply with the HDMI interface standard and are HDCP compliant.

“We are very excited about these new fiber-optic DVI-D cables,” states Chris Kopin, vice president of Product Development for Kramer Electronics USA. “They are very flexible, they do not require external power, they support very high resolution computer and HDTV signals and most importantly, they remove the distance barrier for DVI-D signals.”

All four models of this optical DVI cable, the 6010, 6020, 6030 and 6050 are now in stock and available through Kramer Electronics sales companies worldwide.
