Two for the Long Road

Kramer Introduces Two Twisted Pair Products for Moving VGA, Audio, Power and Control Signals Long Distances Together

15 January 2006

Jerusalem, Israel – January 19, 2006 – Celebrating their 25th Anniversary in 2006, Kramer Electronics, Ltd., an ISO 9001 : 2000 certified company, and a worldwide supplier of audio, video and computer graphics signal distribution, switching and processing equipment, is pleased to announce the newest additions to its product line, the TP-123 and TP-124 transmitter and receiver. The TP-123 and the TP-124 are designed to conveniently move computer graphics video, stereo unbalanced audio, power and RS-232 signals long distances over standard twisted pair cable.

The TP-123 receiver will accept a computer graphics video signal on a 15-pin HD connector with a resolution ranging from VGA through UXGA, an unbalanced stereo audio signal on a 3.5mm mini jack and through Kramer’s RS-232 Connect™ system an RS-232 signal on a terminal block connector. The TP-123 will then convert the signals for transmission over twisted pair cable. Both the TP-123 and the TP-124 also have Kramer’s Power Connect™ system that allows power to be sent with the other signals down the twisted pair cable. With the Power Connect system only one of the units, the TP-123 or the TP-124 needs to be powered.

The unbalanced stereo audio signal is converted by the TP-123 to a 24 bit, 48kHz S/PDIF digital audio signal for transmission. The TP-123 can transmit signals to distances greater than 300 feet (100 meters) over standard UTP CAT5 cable. Depending on the quality and resolution of the video signal and the quality of the twisted pair cabling used, further transmission distances can be achieved.

The TP-124 receiver accepts the signals from the TP-123 and converts them back to their original formats for distribution. The audio signal is converted back to an unbalanced stereo audio signal on a 3.5mm mini plug and it is also simultaneously available from the TP-124 as the converted 24bit, 48kHz S/PDIF digital audio signal. The RS-232 signal is also converted back and can be used to control a device located at the receiver end of a system. Level (Gain) and EQ controls to compensate for long distance signal runs are located on the TP-124 receiver. In many systems, the receiver – and not the transmitter - is located in an area where the installer can see the effects of adjusting the Level and EQ. Additionally, with these controls on the receiver which is typically tucked away near the display, there is significantly less opportunity for someone to inadvertently change the adjustments.

“Like all of Kramer’s twisted pair products, the TP-123/TP-124 combination has been designed specifically to be ‘installer friendly’ with the Power Connect and RS-232 Connect systems and with the Level (Gain) and EQ controls on the receiver rather than on the transmitter,” states Chris Kopin, vice president of Product Development for Kramer Electronics USA. “Today’s Pro AV marketplace requires the ability to move high quality video and audio signals long distances over inexpensive twisted pair cable. Kramer meets these needs once again with the TP-123/TP-124 combination and we added the ability to send power and control signals along with the video and audio signals providing even greater flexibility for the designers and installers.”

The ability of the TP-123 and TP-124 to send the power down the cable is extremely important. Especially for installations where the receiver is placed in the ceiling with the projector mount. The installer can easily supply power to the transmitter where the signals originate.

The TP-123 and TP-124 are housed in compact Kramer TOOLS™ enclosures. These models are also compatible with other Kramer computer graphics video over twisted pair transmitters and receivers.

Both models are now in stock and available through Kramer Electronics sales office worldwide.
