Empowered Computer Graphics Video Over CAT 5 Transmitter and Receiver Set

Kramer Electronics Introduces Small Form Factor CAT 5 Transmitter and Receiver with Unique and Convenient Powering Option

05 July 2005

Jerusalem, Israel – July 5, 2005 – Kramer Electronics, Ltd., a worldwide supplier of audio, video and computer graphics signal distribution, switching and processing equipment for the broadcast, production, security, education, home theater and ProAV presentation markets, is pleased to announce the newest additions to its product line – the TP-120 receiver and PT-110 transmission - for transmitting computer graphics video signals, with resolutions ranging from VGA through XGA, over CAT 5 cable. The TP-120 and PT-110 send power down the CAT 5 cable so only one of the two needs to be powered. One unit will draw its power from the other.

The TP-120 and PT-110 computer graphics video over CAT 5 receiver and transmitter reflect the valuable feedback Kramer has received from installers and system integrators. The best example of this is that power is transmitted down the CAT 5 cable (in either direction) along with the video signal which travels from the PT-110 transmitter to the TP-120 receiver. Only one of the units needs to be powered and it will supply the power to the other unit.

The ability to send the power down the cable is extremely helpful, for example if the receiver is placed in the ceiling with the projector mount. The installer can easily supply power to the transmitter where the signals originate and not have to worry about powering the receiver.

Another example of the incorporation of feedback from the installers is that the Level (Gain) and EQ controls to compensate for long distance signal runs are located on the TP-120 receiver rather than the PT-110 transmitter. In many systems the receiver – and not the transmitter - is located in an area where the installer can see the effects of adjusting the Level and EQ. Additionally, with these controls on the receiver which is tucked away near the display, (as opposed to being accessible near the source material), there is significantly less opportunity for someone to erroneously change the adjustments. Finally, both units are extremely compact for convenient placement in any system.

“The TP-120/PT-110 combination has been designed specifically to be ‘installer friendly’ with the ability to send power down the CAT 5 cable; with Level (Gain) and EQ controls on the receiver rather than on the transmitter; and with the compact size of both the receiver and transmitter,” states Chris Kopin, vice president of Product Development for Kramer Electronics USA. “For example, you can put the extremely compact receiver on the projector mount in the ceiling without the need to arrange any AC for the unit, because it can be fed by the transmitter. The transmitter can draw power more conveniently where the source devices are located, and you can set the Level (Gain) and EQ and never have to worry about anyone accidentally changing those settings.”

The TP-120 is housed in a compact Kramer TOOLS™ enclosure, and the PT-110 is housed in an ultra-compact Kramer Pico TOOLS enclosure. These models are also compatible with other Kramer computer graphics video over CAT 5 transmitters and receivers.
