Kramer Electronics Introduces VP-724DS Advanced Scaler

Responds to market feedback on very successful existing models

05 September 2003

Hampton, NJ – September 5th, 2003 – Kramer Electronics, a worldwide supplier of audio, video and computer graphics signal distribution, switching and processing equipment for the broadcast, production, security, education and ProAV presentation markets is introducing to the residential and home theater markets the VP-724DS scaler at the CEDIA 2003 trade show in Indianapolis, Indiana. The VP-724DS is an enhanced version of Kramer’s very popular VP-720DS and VP-723DS scaler models. The CEDIA show runs from September 5th through September 7th, 2003. This new model is on display in Kramer’s booth, #608.

In response to market feedback, Kramer has improved upon its very popular and successful VP-720DS and VP-723DS scalers with the introduction of the VP-724DS. The VP-724DS is exactly like the VP-723DS with an extra 15pin HD (VGA/XGA type) input and stereo audio added for all eight inputs.

“The VP-720DS and the VP-723DS scalers have become extremely popular because of their amazing combination of output image quality and value pricing,” states Clint Hoffman, Kramer’s Vice President of New Business Development and Marketing. “As overwhelming as the reaction from the market has been, there were also requests for some changes and the VP-724DS is the direct result of our having listened to the market and responded to these requests.

The VP-724DS is a true multi standard video to RGBHV scaler that converts video, s-Video, component video, VGA through UXGA signals and DVI signals to multiple user selectable output pixel rates. The scaler provides fade thru black switching between inputs and includes a picture-in-picture inserter, allowing the insertion of any video source into a graphics background and vice versa. It can also scale, zoom, freeze and locate the inserted image anywhere on the screen. A full scale ProcAmp is built in for video correction and enhancement.

Like its predecessors, the VP-724DS has extraordinary output image quality. In fact, the results of nationwide demonstrations of the scaling technology in the existing models indicate that it is the best image scaling quality available in the market today when compared to products in the industry even remotely close in price.

The VP-724DS is specifically designed to improve the video quality by reducing chroma noise. It also digitally reprocesses the incoming signal to clean up any mastering errors and regenerates video signals at a higher line and pixel rate format, providing native resolution output for many of today’s LCD, DLP and Plasma displays. It incorporates a unique graphics-scaling engine with image enhancement algorithms that are built into the firmware. As a result, it can scale any compatible input signal resolution to any available output resolution, allowing the scaling of not only video signals but also computer signals from VGA through UXGA resolution.

Inputs on the VP-724DS are 2 s-Video, 2 Composite video, 1 Component video, 2 computer video (15pin HD - VGA through UXGA) and 1 DVI. The output signal is user selectable and can be VGA (640x480), SVGA (800x600), XGA (1024x768), SXGA (1280x1024) and UXGA (1600x1200). The unit has eight additional, non-standard, user selectable output resolutions of 852x1024, 852x480, 1024x1024 1365x1024, 1366x768, 1400x1500, 1280x720, 720x483 and one user definable resolution for handling latest PDP and Home Theatre projector technologies and three DTV output resolutions, 1080i, 720p and 480p (13 output resolutions altogether).

The scaler can be controlled via the front panel, infrared remote and RS-232 control. It also offers 3:2 and 2:2 pull down capability and to top it off, a time base corrector. The VP-724DS is housed in a 1 RU 19” rack mount enclosure.
