New Kramer Device Extends and Protects DV/FireWire Signals

Kramer Introduces 8 Port DV/FireWire Repeater/Hub with Protected Ports

01 December 2004

Jerusalem, Israel – December 1, 2004 - Kramer Electronics, Ltd., a worldwide producer of audio, video and computer graphics signal distribution, switching and processing equipment for the broadcast, production, security, education, home theater and ProAV presentation markets, is pleased to announce that the newest addition to its extremely popular line of Kramer TOOLS, the VS-8FW DV/FireWire repeater/hub, is in stock and ready for delivery. The VS-8FW repeater/hub employs Kramer’s unique Spark-Guard Pro™ electrostatic discharge protection technology to protect all digital equipment connected to the VS-8FW.

The Kramer VS-8FW is an eight port DV/FireWire repeater/hub for applications requiring additional FireWire (IEEE 1394) ports. Hubs may be cascaded to create up to a 63 port FireWire system. The repeater/hub supports 100, 200, and 400 Mbps transfer rates, enabling high rate digital video transfer. It also allows for "hot plugging" or “hot swapping” and supports Plug-and-Play standards.

The hub includes Kramer’s unique Spark-Guard Pro electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection technology on all its ports. Spark-Guard Pro reduces electrostatic discharge to surrounding digital equipment, ensuring extended life and minimal interference to digital systems. Spark-Guard Pro ESD protection technology is an extremely important benefit in building complex digital systems or when simply hooking up a camcorder to a computer.

“The VS-8FW is a great tool for professionals needing to extend or expand IEEE 1394 FireWire signals in their system”, states Chris Kopin, Product Development Manager for Kramer Electronics US. “Our Spark-Guard Pro technology provides invaluable protection against ESD which in turn protects the valuable investment professionals have in their digital equipment.”

The machine effectively extends the standard 15 foot (4.5 meter) operation range of DV/FireWire signals, even doubling the range when using appropriate cabling. The Kramer VS-8FW utilizes IEEE 1394 bus power, or it can be used with an included external 12V DC power supply with devices that require more power. It is housed in the pocket size Kramer TOOLS enclosure.

The VS-8FW is now in stock and available from Kramer Electronics sales companies around the world.
